VK Knowlton
Reshaping the face of Central and South Texas, V.K. Knowlton Construction & Utilities, Ltd. Began with one man and one machine.
The year was 1960. Armed with an Allis-Chalmers Model D grader and a hot water heater filled with cement as his first roller, Virgil K. Knowlton put into motion the commitment and traditions that would grow his family business from his mother's garage in south San Antonio to a regional industry leader. Today more than 450 construction operators, estimators and staff, plus a multimillion dollar assembly of machinery and equipment serve clients.
For the past two decades, Knowlton's experienced team has included Virgil's sons, Scott and Sam, whose up-through-the-ranks careers with the company have earned them leadership in Knowlton's general management, sales, marketing and operations, while also assuring continuity of the family-run approach that's been in place since its founding.
Turning megatons of dirt and tough Texas limestone rock into sites, streets and utilities ready for residential and commercial development takes force, but finesse also plays a significant role in the long roster of Knowlton's successfully completed projects. Beyond careful, insightful assessment of the earth moving demands of each site, the company has consistently found a competitive edge in resourceful use of its industry's technology.
